“History is written by the winners.” You’ve heard it. And it’s true.
Biblical scholar and professor Nijay Gupta is here to remind us that church history falls into the same trap. “Many of us have been told stories of the Bible that selectively leave women out.”
Women Leaders in the Early Church
In his new Seminary Now video course based on his book Tell Her Story, available starting May 14, Gupta explores how our own cultural biases color the way we see, or don’t see, women in the biblical text. He challenges us to consider both what the Bible says about women in leadership and also what the Bible reveals that women did to lead. You’ll get history, theology, biblical studies, and surprising insight into the early church.

Seminary Now
This video-streaming library partners with professors, authors, and other academically-minded theologians and Bible scholars who represent the diversity of Christ’s church. The site offers on-demand, curated video courses that keep leaders growing into who God made them to be. The 85+ courses are available to watch in approximately ten-minute segments anytime, anywhere, from any device.
I describe this library as “seminary lite”—more academic than the typical (and wonderful!) RightNow Media library of Bible studies. They are a great way to study a variety of biblical, theological, and cultural topics, all taught by experts in their fields. Seminary Now has developed some opportunities to earn certification for those with the time and investment.
Individuals can purchase a year-long membership, which opens up the entire library. I’d encourage churches to subscribe and make it available to their small groups and any seeking to go deeper in their discipleship and leadership.
Full disclosure: Only Seminary Now members can view this particular series, but when you register, you can opt for the 7-day trial period, which is more than enough time to watch the whole series. So mark your calendar to register next week.
Giveaway!
Note: the full subscription costs about $180/yr. Often you can find discounts via the teachers who are featured in the library, so hunt around online. But right now, one of my subscribers can win a free year to Seminary Now! Follow these simple steps:
You must be a subscriber.
Comment (I’ll open this post up for everyone) on why a subscription to Seminary Now would benefit you or your small group. You may also respond via email if you don’t have the app.
Share this post in any form—social media, forward to a friend, in the Substack app. Screenshot your share or add the link to your comment so I can see it.
I’ll choose a winner on May 14, 2025, and notify them (you??) by email. Thanks for reading!
I would love to win because the more I learn about women in the early church, the better I can advocate for women in the modern church. I'm sharing this with Ginger Armstrong- a Women's Ministry Director.
